What is VestaCP?

VestaCP is a free, open-source web hosting control panel that was popular between 2014 and 2018 for its clean, minimalist interface and low resource footprint. It provides a straightforward web-based interface for managing websites, email, DNS, databases, FTP accounts, and SSL certificates from a single dashboard.

VestaCP development effectively stopped in 2018. The project has known unpatched security vulnerabilities and does not support modern operating systems like Ubuntu 22.04 or Debian 12. For any new installation, HestiaCP — the actively maintained fork of VestaCP — is the strongly recommended alternative with the same interface paradigm, modern OS support, and regular security fixes.

This page is maintained for existing VestaCP users on Host4Fun Cloud VPS who need reference information. If you are starting fresh, please consider HestiaCP or another actively maintained panel listed in our related panels section below.

VestaCP on Cloud VPS — How It Works

VestaCP installs via a single command on supported older OS versions. It sets up Nginx + Apache, PHP-FPM, MySQL, Exim mail, Dovecot, and Bind DNS in a single automated process — similar to its fork HestiaCP.

For new deployments, we strongly recommend HestiaCP instead. HestiaCP is a direct fork of VestaCP with the same interface, plus active security maintenance, modern OS support, and ongoing feature development.

Everything VestaCP Gives You

A complete feature set tailored for the VestaCP control panel on a high-performance Cloud VPS.

Minimal Resource Usage

VestaCP was known for its extremely low RAM footprint — the same characteristic inherited by its fork HestiaCP. The panel consumes minimal server resources, leaving CPU and RAM available for hosted websites.

Nginx + Apache Stack

VestaCP uses Nginx as a reverse proxy in front of Apache — the same dual-stack approach used by HestiaCP. Nginx handles static files and reverse proxy, while Apache handles PHP via .htaccess-compatible virtual hosts.

Let's Encrypt SSL

Basic Let's Encrypt SSL integration for hosted domains. Auto-renewal via cron job. For more robust SSL automation, HestiaCP offers improved Let's Encrypt handling with better error handling and wildcard support.

Exim + Dovecot Email Stack

Exim MTA with Dovecot IMAP/POP3, SpamAssassin, and Roundcube webmail. Manage email accounts, forwarders, and aliases per domain. DKIM signing available through the DNS module.

MySQL / MariaDB & phpMyAdmin

Create and manage MySQL and MariaDB databases with a clean interface. phpMyAdmin available directly from the panel. Per-user database limits configurable through the admin interface.

Multi-User Support

VestaCP supports multiple user accounts with configurable resource limits — domains, disk quotas, bandwidth, email accounts, and databases per user. Admin panel manages all hosted accounts from a central view.

Bind DNS Management

BIND DNS zone management with a form-based interface. Create and manage DNS zones, A records, MX records, CNAME records, and TXT records for hosted domains without editing zone files directly.

Basic Backup Support

Scheduled backup support for web files, databases, email, and DNS zones. Configure local backup destinations with retention settings. Note: backup features are more limited compared to HestiaCP and other modern panels.

Security Warning — Use HestiaCP

VestaCP has known, unpatched security vulnerabilities. The project has not received security updates since 2018. For any production hosting environment, migrate to HestiaCP which provides the same interface with regular security patches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about running VestaCP on a Host4Fun Cloud VPS.

VestaCP has known, unpatched security vulnerabilities and has not received development updates since approximately 2018. For production hosting, we strongly recommend HestiaCP — the actively maintained fork with the same interface, modern OS support, and regular security patches.
HestiaCP is a fork of VestaCP created in 2019 to address VestaCP's abandoned state. It has the same interface paradigm and panel port (:8083), with added security fixes, new features, modern OS support (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12), and active community development.
Yes. HestiaCP provides migration documentation for moving from VestaCP. The similar account structure makes migration more straightforward than moving to an entirely different panel. Spin up a new Host4Fun Cloud VPS with HestiaCP and migrate accounts via backup restore.
VestaCP works best on Ubuntu 18.04 or 20.04. It does not reliably support Ubuntu 22.04 or Debian 12. For modern OS support, use HestiaCP instead — available free and fully compatible with Ubuntu 22.04 and Debian 12.
Yes, VestaCP is free and open source under the GPL v3 license. However, its abandoned status means no security updates are available. HestiaCP is equally free and actively maintained.
VestaCP panel runs on port 8083 over HTTPS — the same port as HestiaCP (since HestiaCP is a fork). Ensure port 8083 is open in your server firewall after installation.
No — for any new installation in 2026, use HestiaCP instead. VestaCP is abandoned and has unpatched vulnerabilities. HestiaCP delivers the identical panel experience with active security maintenance. This page exists only as a reference for existing VestaCP users.
VestaCP has very limited multi-PHP support compared to modern panels. HestiaCP supports full multi-PHP version management (PHP 7.4 through 8.3) with per-domain version selection — a significant improvement over the original VestaCP.
