The community-built RHEL replacement on the world's fastest VPS hardware. AMD Ryzen, DDR5, NVMe and 10Gbps — built for serious infrastructure.
Rocky Linux was founded by Gregory Kurtzer — the same person who created CentOS in 2004. When Red Hat announced the end of CentOS, Kurtzer created Rocky Linux specifically to continue what CentOS started: a free, community-maintained, RHEL-compatible Linux distribution. This origin gives Rocky Linux unmatched community trust among long-time CentOS administrators.
Rocky Linux builds its packages using Peridot, an open-source build system that is publicly visible and auditable by anyone. Every build can be independently verified to confirm it was compiled correctly from RHEL sources without tampering. This level of transparency is unique among RHEL-compatible distributions and matters deeply to security-conscious enterprises.
Rocky Linux ships with SELinux in enforcing mode — mandatory access control that limits what every process can do, even after a compromise. Firewalld provides enterprise firewall management. SCAP profiles are available for CIS and DISA STIG compliance. The same security posture as RHEL, without the subscription cost.
All three major hosting control panels officially support Rocky Linux 8 and 9. Deploy cPanel/WHM, Plesk Obsidian or DirectAdmin on your Rocky Linux VPS at Host4Fun in minutes. Rocky Linux is one of the top recommended OS choices for new cPanel installations following CentOS EOL.

Original founder of CentOS (2004)
Founder of Rocky Linux (2021)
Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation
In December 2020, Red Hat announced the end of CentOS Linux — the stable, free RHEL-compatible distribution that had powered millions of production servers for nearly two decades. CentOS 8 was cut short just one year into its planned 10-year lifecycle. The announcement triggered a crisis for the global sysadmin community.
Gregory Kurtzer, the person who originally founded CentOS in 2004, responded by creating Rocky Linux within days of the announcement. Named after Rocky McGaugh, an early CentOS co-founder, Rocky Linux was built from the ground up by the community to continue the mission CentOS abandoned: a free, stable, RHEL binary-compatible Linux distribution maintained in the open, with no single corporate entity controlling its future.
Today Rocky Linux is maintained by the Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation (RESF) — a public benefit organisation with no single corporate backer. Rocky Linux 9 is fully supported until May 2032. The Peridot build system makes every package build publicly auditable. It is the choice for sysadmins who want enterprise-grade RHEL compatibility without the subscription cost, and without trusting a single vendor to keep the lights on.
Rocky Linux follows the RHEL release cycle exactly. Each major version receives 10 years of support from Red Hat upstream, translated into free patches for Rocky Linux users.
CentOS 7 went end-of-life in June 2024. CentOS 8 ended in December 2021. Servers still running CentOS in production are exposed to unpatched security vulnerabilities. Rocky Linux's free migrate2rocky script migrates a live CentOS 8 system to Rocky Linux 8 in-place — no full reinstall required. Deploy a fresh Rocky Linux 9 VPS at Host4Fun and migrate your workloads to a platform with support until 2032.
Rocky Linux 9, 8, 10 and Latest available in the VPS panel. Older versions and fully custom OS deployments available on request via KVM.
The recommended choice for all new deployments. Rocky Linux 9 is RHEL 9 binary-compatible with kernel 5.14, OpenSSL 3.0, Python 3.9/3.11 via modules, PHP 8.1/8.2 and MariaDB 10.5/10.11. cPanel/WHM, Plesk and DirectAdmin all officially support Rocky Linux 9.
The ideal CentOS 8 drop-in replacement. Every application that ran on CentOS 8 runs unchanged on Rocky Linux 8. PHP 7.4/8.0, Python 3.8/3.9, dnf module streams and all RHEL 8 packages available. cPanel and Plesk officially supported.
The newest Rocky Linux release based on RHEL 10 with the latest kernel, updated toolchain and modern packages. Ideal for developers targeting the latest RHEL 10 feature set, modern container tooling and updated security profiles.

Officially supportedcPanel requires a minimum of 2 GB RAM for basic operation and 4 GB or more for production use with multiple accounts. The Nova plan (4 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 60 GB NVMe) is the recommended starting point for cPanel/WHM or Plesk deployments on Rocky Linux 9. The Titan plan is suited to high-traffic shared hosting environments with many accounts.
Rocky Linux's RHEL compatibility, SELinux security, Peridot-verified builds and long support windows make it the enterprise choice for serious production infrastructure.
